For clinical tests of Elixir 3 conducted with inflammatory diseases of parodontium

Elixir 3 is an herbal tincture for strengthening the organism composed of:
Basil: acts antiseptically, anaesthetically, spasmolytically. It may be used as a local anaesthetic for ulcerative aphthous stomatites and traumatic injuries of gingiva and mucosa caused by artificial dentures.
Nettle: a styptic, improves the metabolism.
Hips:stimulate the blood-forming apparatus, enhances the phagocytaric capabilities of leukocytes. Peppermint: manifests an analgesic and spasmolytic action.
Walnut: in case of hypovitaminoses C and avitaminoses C.

The clinical investigation of Elixir 3 was carried out with 15 volunteers suffering from diseases of the paradontium (gingivitis cataralis, gingivitis ulcerosa, parodontitis, parodontosis).

Preliminary clinical examinations and paraclinical analyses were done in relation to the diseases of the paradontium. The treatment was general and local. During a month the patients took 20 drops three times per day. The same patients rinsed their mouths for 20-30 seconds with diluted 1:3 Elixir 3 three times per day after cleaning their teeth.

For gingivitis ulcerosa, Elixir 3 was applied as one of the means for oral hygiene. This was preceded by rinsing the oral cavity with hydrogen peroxide (diluted with tap water). The ulcers were daubed with Elixir 3 rather than with Granofurin-H.

For accounting the heaviness of gingivitis as well for evaluating the progress of convalescence, the following indexed system of accounting the condition of gingivitis was used.

A blunt parodontal probe was introduced to the bottom of the gingival pocket and moved gently on to the tooth surface. If bleeding ensued, the investigated place was considered as inflamed.

0 - normal gingiva.
1 - low inflammation (no bleeding).
2 - medium inflammation (erythema & swelling), bleeds at pressure & probing.
3 - high inflammation (erythema and swelling), spontaneous bleeding.

The use of Elixir 3 according to this method showed good results. A marked anaesthetizing and anti-inflammatory effect was found out.

The clinical tests performed with Elixir 3 within a period of six months permit to reach the following conclusions:

  1. Elixir 3 IS NOT TOXIC AND SHOWS A GOOD TOLERANCE ON THE PART OF THE PATIENTS.
  2. It does not give side reactions, irritation and colouring of the solid dental tissues.
  3. Elixir 3 has a general strengthening effect on the organism.
  4. At local use, it suppresses the formation of dental plaque.
  5. ELIXIR 3 EXERTS AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DEODORANT EFFECT AND MAY BE USED FOR DISINFECTION OF THE ORAL CAVITY, TREATMENT OF ULCERS, APHTHAE, ARTIFICIAL-DENTURE STOMATITIS.
